Tibetan troops recruited earlier by Chinese PLA are now visible as part of the PLA border defence patrols along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Tibetan troops who were earlier recruited by the Chinese Army to assist them in high-altitude locations are now visible as part of the People's Liberation Army border defence patrols along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, reported news agency, ANI.
The report said the Chinese started recruiting these soldiers following the aggression that took place along the LAC in 2020 and after figuring out that the Han Chinese troops are not able to adjust in the extreme weather conditions along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
"The Tibetan soldiers are now visible as part of the patrols of their border defence troops but the majority continue to be the mainland Chinese soldiers," sources in security forces said.
"These new recruitment drives are happening because units with Han Chinese troops are suffering serious health problems such as severe mountain sickness and high altitude pulmonary edema," an Indian medical service expert in high altitude sickness stated referring to the recruitment drives that started in February 2021 as reported by Swarajyamag.
Another reason for recruiting these soldiers is because the Chinese have also seen how the Indian Special Frontier Force troops which included many Tibetan troops performed during the capture of high peaks in the Kailash ranges by the Indian Army.
Reportedly, China had issued instructions to their senior commanders to appoint at least one soldier from each Tibetan family as a way of showing loyalty towards their country and at the same time, keep a check on their families.
However, most of the troops are mixed Tibetans i.e., children of Tibetan mothers and Han Chinese fathers.
The Chinese have also tried to recruit Gurkha Soldiers in PLA but since they have an emotional and historical connection with the Indian army, the chinese attempt was a big failure.
India has also deployed an almost equal number of troops as the Chinese along the Eastern Ladakh sector to counter any possible attack by the Chinese in the future.
