PhonePe warns Congress of legal action over posters featuring Madhya Pradesh's CM.

Online payment app PhonePe on Monday took to its official Twitter handle and stated that it objects and warned of legal action to Congress for using the company's name and logo in posters for political campaigns.

The posters feature a QR code with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's face and read: "50 percent laao, PhonePe kaam karao (pay 50 percent commission to get your work done)”.

"PhonePe objects to the unauthorized use of its brand logo by any third party, whether political or non-political. We are not affiliated with any political campaign or party. PhonePe logo is a registered trademark of our company. Any unauthorized use of Intellectual Property Rights of PhonePe will invite legal action. We humbly request @INCMP to remove the posters and banners featuring our brand logo and colour," the company tweeted.

Madhya Pradesh Congress on Monday shared videos of these posters on its Twitter handle that emerged in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Sehore, Rewa, Mandsaur, Ujjain, Bhind, Balaghat, Budhni and some other cities. Budhni is the Assembly seat represented by Shivraj Chouhan.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and BJP leader Narottam Mishra in an interview with news agency ANI said, "The dirty politics of Congress has come to the fore. Nothing to say after the 'Phonepe' tweet."

He further said, "The public knows that you (referring to the Congress) are blaming others to hide your (Congress) corruption.

He also said that an FIR has been registered in Burhanpur, Chhindwara and action will be taken against it accordingly.

Earlier, Congress leader Kamal Nath's posters had surfaced in the Shahpura area of Bhopal, referring to him as “corrupt Nath”, listing him as “wanted”, and linking him to a number of “scams”.

Those posters also featured a QR code with the message “Scam se bachne ke liye scan kare” (scan to prevent scams).

The Congress said that the posters on Shivraj Singh Chouhan were a retaliation to the posters on Kamal Nath.

The Madhya Pradesh Congress, on the other hand, responded back to the objection and legal warning by the online payment company, PhonePe.

The INCMP asked a list of questions to PhonePe and asked them to clarify it with transparency.

It said that failing to do so will count as politically motivated and aimed at benefiting a particular party and furthermore will lead to legal action against them.

Some of the questions raised by INCMP are, "Is PhonePe also responsible for the use of money transferred under it? Will you monitor the use/abuse of PhonePe in the future and ensure that money transferred through your app is never used for bribery or corruption."
