Odisha's OTV news channel launches AI news anchor, Lisa.

An Odisha-based private news channel Odisha TV unveiled an AI-generated news anchor named 'Lisa' on Sunday at Bhubaneswar.

A video posted in OTV's Twitter, the AI news presenter is seen wearing a Odisha handloom saree and introducing herself confidently.

As per the company's statement, OTV is gifting Odia television journalism its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) news anchor, Lisa, it said.

According to the Twitter caption, Lisa has the capability to speak in multiple languages. However at present she will be delivering news only in Odia and English for OTV Network's television and digital platforms.

The company's statement further stated, “Efforts are underway to make Lisa more proficient in Odia in the coming days. You can find and follow Lisa on all the prominent social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, among others."

The company's Digital Business Head, Litisha Mangat Panda said that training Lisa in Odia was quite challenging, which they could achieve it finally.

She said even Google doesn't translate from Odia to English properly.

She said, "It has been a huge team effort and today we have been able to do that. Of course, it is not as fluent as you, but it is much more fluent than what Google Translate could offer you."

She added that they are still working on its performance and hoping to get her trained to the level in which she could interact with others easily.

OTV is the first private satellite channel of Odisha which came into existence nearly two and half decades ago.

Earlier in March, India Today Group introduced their own AI news anchor named Sona describing it as "bright, gorgeous, ageless, and tireless."
