Former Indian all-rounder and one of the players of India's historic 1983 World Cup winning Kapil Dev-led team, Roger is likely to be elected as the 36th BCCI president unopposed.

The former cricketer filed a nomination for the post of BCCI President on October 12 and is likely to get the top job unopposed, board vice-president Rajeev Shukla said.

According to reports, Roger is the only candidate so far who has filed a nomination for the post of BCCI president so his chances of winning the post are high.

Other posts such as the BCCI Secretary, vice president, Treasurer, and joint secretary have also filed their nominations.

“Roger Binny has filed nomination for president’s post, myself for the vice-president’s post, Jay Shah for secretary, Ashish Shelar for treasurer and Devajit Saikia has filed nomination for joint secretary’s post,” Shukla told reporters. “Arun Dhumal will head the IPL Governing Council and Abhishek Dalmiya will be part of that council. Khairul Jamal (Mamon) Majumdar will be part of the apex council. As of now these are the nominations and all are unopposed,” Rajeev Shukla said.

Reportedly, Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to continue as BCCI secretary for a second consecutive term if another candidate doesn’t file a nomination. 

According to reports, Ganguly was apparently offered IPL chairmanship but after a thorough discussion with stakeholders in New Delhi, last week, he refused the offer.

The former India captain was in fact interested to continue his position but was told that there is no precedent of giving a second term to the board president.

“Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position,” the BCCI source said.

Amidst all these, a political issue erupts between Trinamool Congress Party and Bharatiya Janata Party.

After the news of Sourav Ganguly as president of the BCCI term will end circulated, the Trinamool Congress Party alleged it to be a "political vendetta". TMC alleged it is all BJP's doing as Ganguly didn't join them when he was asked to. 

Taking to Twitter, TMC MP Shantanu Sen said, Another example of political vendetta. The Son of Amit Shah can be retained as Secretary of BCCI. But Ganguly can't be. Is it because he is from the State of West Bengal or he didn't join BJP? We are with you dada!

"Amit Shah visited Sourav Ganguly's house few months ago. There's info Ganguly was approached repeatedly to join BJP. Probably as he hasn't consented to join BJP&is from Bengal, he's become prey to political vendetta. Amit Shah's son retained as BCCI secy, but not Ganguly: Dr S Sen, TMC said while speaking to ANI.

Sen further said that the former India captain's post was taken away from him because he turned down the offer of joining the BJP. He added, this is not just a politically influenced act but a cheap saffronisation of sports. The BJP has reserved all top managerial positions for the family members of their leaders.

BJP, on the other hand, responded by saying all the allegations put against them are baseless and that they had never tried to make Ganguly join their party.

"We don't know when the BJP tried to induct Sourav Ganguly into the party. Sourav Ganguly is a cricketing legend. Some people are now shedding crocodile tears about the changes in BCCI. Did they have any role when he took over as BCCI president? The TMC should stop politicizing every issue," Dilip Ghosh, vice president of BJP said.

Tomorrow, October 13 is the last day for filing nominations. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by Friday i.e., October 14. The final list of the candidates for various positions of BCCI to be released on Saturday (October 15).
