Apple starts manufacturing the iPhone 14 series in India.
The popular worldwide company Apple, last month announced that it plans to begin manufacturing its latest iPhone 14 series in India which is reportedly a significant milestone in the company's strategy to diversify its production outside of China.
At the same time, it also wants to expand the market in India which is currently quite small for the company.
Last month, the company’s global partner Foxconn said they will manufacture the device in the Sriperumbudur facility near Chennai.
“We’re excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India,” the company said in a statement.
Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in India since the year 2017. Those were usually the older models but this time they are manufacturing the newly launched iPhone 14.
The Cupertino-based company will sell India-produced phones locally but also export them to other markets globally.
According to analysts, JPMorgan, Apple will move 5% of its global production for the iPhone 14 to India by late 2022. Apple could also make 25% of all iPhones by 2025 in India, JPMorgan said.
Another Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that "Apple's global supply chain management strategy continues to change in response to the de-globalization trend, mainly to reduce the assembly business in China."
In the series of tweets, he also mentions that Apple plans to partner with Tata Group of India to cooperate with Pegatron or Wistron in the near future to co-develop the global iPhone assembly business in India. Currently, more than 80 percent of the iPhones made in India in partnership with Foxconn meet the domestic demand.
He further said that this cooperation of Tata Group and Pegatron or Wistron can accelerate the increase in the proportion of non-China iPhone.
Apart from these, he also said that Apple plans to shift its production of MacBook to a non-China production site and the site which Apple has considered is Thailand.
In the latest reports, Apple announces to soon manufacture AirPods and Beats headphones in India for the first time.
According to a report coming from CNBC TV18, the IT minister of the country, Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed the local manufacturing of AirPods. The report further noted that the local manufacturing of the iPhone 14 will begin in December 2022, which is just a few months after the launch.
