Delhi Police lodges FIR against India’s top wrestlers for violation of law and order.

On the grand occasion of inauguration ceremony of the New Parliament building, less than two kilometres away from the place, top wrestlers of the country on Sunday were detained by Delhi Police while attempting to march towards the new parliament building to protest.

The top, Olympics and Commonwealth Games medal-winning wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia were seen being shoved, pushed and dragged into buses after a scuffle with security personnel who tried to stop them from marching towards the New Parliament building from their original site of protest, Jantar Mantar.

Reportedly the athletes had planned to hold a 'Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat' (women's assembly) as part of their ongoing protest against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in from of the New Parliament.

The WFI Chief was earlier accused by the wrestlers of sexually harassing female athletes. And ever since then the wrestlers have been demanding his arrest.

Reportedly, the Delhi police later filed an FIR against protest organisers and others in connection with the scuffle that broke out at Jantar Mantar, earlier today under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 147, 149, 186, 188, 332, 353, Section 3 of the PDPP Act.

Opposition leaders, who boycotted the inauguration ceremony of the New Parliament building, strongly condemned the crackdown.

According to reports, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Sangeeta Phogat were released from the detention, while few protestors are still under police custody whom they claim to release tomorrow morning.
