Assam's Swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika becomes the first Swimmer from NE to cross the English Channel.

10 years National Swimming Champion Elvis Ali Hazarika from Assam scripted history by becoming the first Assamese (North East) to cross the English Channel.

Hazarika who hails from Guwahati crossed the English Channel both ways from England to France and vice versa.

According to Hazarika, he swam 78 Km to clock a time of 31 Hours by swimming it in Relay from England Samphire to France Calis and then back.

Taking to his social media account, Hazarika wrote, "I have been waiting for this day since a long time. After a lot of efforts and hours of pushing myself to work harder, every day, I successfully have become the first Assamese ( North East) to cross the English Channel TWO-WAYS 78Km to clock a time of 31Hours by swimming it in Relay from England Samphire to France Calis and then back. We had to go through a lot of challenges. Specially, the Jellyfish, Dolphins, Seals, Salt water, Heavy Current, Choppy Weather that were accompanying us all the way!

A dream come true, and proud moment for all Indians and Assamese people.

Thank you to all my friends, family, specially Pranami, Presley and Pranay Bordoloi mama for all your love and support.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his Twitter and congratulated Hazarika for his achievement.

''A momentous triumph and immense pride for Assam! Heartiest congratulations to the trailblazing swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika for conquering the North Channel, etching his name in history as the first Assamese to achieve this remarkable feat! Your success is an inspiration to us all! Sarma tweeted.

The ace swimmer had earlier achieved several milestones such as in 2019, he became the first from Assam to cross the Catalina channel in the United States of America (USA).

Hazarika then reached Mexico from USA, swimming through the channel and covering a distance of 80 km in a span of 10 hours 59 minutes.

In 2021, he became the first Assamese to successfully swim from Dharamtar Jetty to the Gateway Of India, Mumbai, the Arabian Sea.
