Assam Govt. announces ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next kin of the deceased in the Assam-Arunachal firing.

The Assam Govt. on Tuesday announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the next kin of the victims of the Dhemaji firing incident that took place on June 5.

The news was informed by Education Minister of Assam Ranoj Pegu on his Twitter handle.

In his post, the Minister stated that Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi will be given ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each and additionally, the two other injured persons, Jagat Gogoi and Puspa Gogoi will be given Rs 1 lakh each.

Taking to the microblogging site, Minister Ranoj Pegu tweeted, “HCM @himantabiswa has conveyed that the next of kin of the victims of Dhemaji firing incident - Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi will be given ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each. The injured persons, Shri Jagat Gogoi and Sri Puspa Gogoi will be given Rs. 1 lakh each. @PradanBaruah @DhemajiDipro1 @DhemajiPolice @BhubonPegu”.

On Monday, June 5, a firing incident took place in Assam’s Dhemaji district which resulted in the death of two while two others got injured who are currently under treatment in AMCH, Dibrugarh.

As per reports, the incident took place at Dhemaji district's Panbari area which falls along the Assam-Arunachal border, when some miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh opened fire at people from Assam who were planting saplings on the occasion of World Environment Day.

In this connection, five have been arrested from Arunachal Pradesh and further investigation is underway.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the incident took place due to individual land issues which sparked conflict between two people which resulted in such an unfortunate incident.

However, he said, it has nothing to do with border issues.

The CM said he is in touch with the Chief Minister of Assam and the MPs.

Similarly, the police of both the places are in touch as well, he said.

The CM said instead of approaching the administration regarding such matters, people tried to resolve the issue on their own which led to such an unfortunate incident.

The CM said the border issues were already resolved i.e., a MoU was signed on April 2023 between the two chief ministers settling the decades-old border dispute relating to 123 villages spread over the 700-km-long inter-state border and that only the boundaries are yet to be demarcated.
