Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh says he would hang himself if allegations against him are proven.

Amidst protesting wrestlers demand against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for allegedly sexually assaulting the players, the President on Wednesday said that if the allegations against him are proven, he would hang himself.

“It’s been four months. They [wrestlers] want me to be hanged. The government is not hanging me and so they are going to immerse their medals in the Ganga, those who are levelling allegations should know that by immersing medals in the Ganga, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will not get hanged, if you have any proofs, give it, police, courts will give punishment” said Singh.

He added that if a single allegation is proved against him, he would hang himself.

WFI President Singh made those remarks while he was at Barabanki, gathering support for his  ‘Jan Chetna Maha Rally’ in Ayodhya’s Ramkatha park on June 5.

The protesting wrestlers including Sakshee Malikk, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have decided to immerse their medals received in Olympics and other such prestigious championships in the river Ganga at 6 pm on May 30 and that they would then begin an amaran anshan (indefinite hunger strike) at Delhi’s India Gate.

However, they were stopped from doing so by the intervention of president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Naresh Tikait on Tuesday evening.

And they cancelled their decision of immersing their medals and awards.

Tikait took away the medals from them and bought five days of time from the top wrestlers who demanded the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of sexual assault, which Singh has repeatedly denied. He faces two FIRs, including one under the POCSO Act, in the matter, as reported by The Hindu.
