Twitter starts laying off employees in India.
As ordered by the company's new boss, Elon Musk who plans to get rid of about 3,700 jobs to attain economies of scale and make the $44 billion acquisition viable, as stated by PTI, Twitter India employees on Friday also became part of the mass lay off which is going across the world.
The world's richest man started laying off employees last week by firing the CEO Parag Agrawal and other top executives of the social media company.
"Lay-off has started. Some of my colleagues have received an email notification regarding this," a Twitter India employee told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, the US-based social media platform sent an email to its employees across the world, which read "In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday."
It said that "everyone will receive an individual email".
The company had asked its employees to return home until further notice.
"If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home," Twitter had said.
Before those emails, dozens of staff were not able to access their work related mail accounts or even log into their work laptops.
Post this, Bloomberg reported on Friday, Twitter was sued for mass laying off its employees across the globe citing a class-action lawsuit filed in a San Francisco federal court from former employees.
The former employees claim that they were not informed or given a notice about the same and stated that, by doing so, it was in violation of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
According to this act, it helps ensure advance notice in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs.
Netizens are flooding the social media platform with hate messages, and funny memes for suddenly firing them off their jobs.
Earlier, Musk announced that one has to pay $8 monthly if you one needs a blue tick or a verified account.
