In a horrific incident, a youth molested and attempted to rape a female tourist in Assam’s Majuli on Thursday.

According to reports, a girl from Hyderabad who was on a trip to Assam was reportedly molested and was attempted to rape by a youth near Aphalamukh ferry ghat in Majuli where the accused manhandled the tourist and pulled her into the forest attempting to rape her.

The Police informed that a group of people who are choreographers from across India had come to Majuli for vacation and attaining peace of mind through meditation and Yoga practices and one of them was on an e-rickshaw and heading towards the ferry ghat to go to Jorhat. But the e-rickshaw stopped way before reaching the ghat and as soon as the girl got down of the e-rickshaw, a 16-year-old minor boy approached her and pulled her towards the forest to rape her.

Fortunately, the locals nearby heard the girl screaming asking for help reached the spot and immediately rescued her; however, the miscreant fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the incident was informed to the police following which a manhunt was launched and after a few hours the police nabbed the alleged rapist.

The police also apprehended the e-rickshaw driver for questioning regarding the incident and also informed that the girl is in stable condition.

Speaking to the media, the police said, “This is not the first time that the accused has been involved in such kind of acts. In the month of February, he was arrested in a similar rape case. As he was a juvenile, the accused was kept in Lichubari Observation Home and was released just 10-15 days ago. After getting release, he has again attempted to commit such crimes so we are investigating the matter carefully.”

The incident had caused anger among people of the area and in Assam, stating, it’s an utter shame for the people of Assam as Majuli is a major tourist attraction from all over the world.
