Days after the Director General of Police of Assam GP Singh warned the Assam Police personnel to maintain the sanctity of police stations and asked them to ensure that police stations remain the safest place for the children and women following misconduct of a police inspector Biman Roy of Ghograpar Police Station.

An similar incident took place in Tezpur’s Baruah Chubri where a police inspector was slapped and forced to kneel down on his knees for forgiveness for allegedly sending inappropriate messages to a young girl in the pretext of giving her a job.

According to the victim’s mother, the police inspector asked for the girl’s contact number assuring to give her a job. Upon receiving the number, the police inspector had asked for inappropriate pictures from the girl.

Following which, the girl spoke to her parents and not just confronted the police but slapped and forced him to kneel down for forgiveness.

A video has been circulating in the social media where the police officer is seen kneeling down on his knees, begging for forgiveness from a woman and the public in Tezpur on Saturday.

The police officer has been identified as Lohit Rajbongshi, an armed branch inspector.

Following the viral incident, the Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh took stern action against the police inspector by placing him under suspension and ordered a departmental enquiry.

“Reference incident of objectionable text message to a woman by a policeman in Tezpur - Armed Branch Inspector Lohit Rajbongshi has been placed under suspension and a departmental enquiry ordered to be completed in seven working days after which strongest appropriate action shall be taken. No deviant behaviour by a Cop would be brushed under the carpet,” the DGP tweeted.
