The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) extended the ceasefire agreement for another year with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) Niki group yesterday, September 7.

The Ceasefire Agreement is in operation between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) Niki group for a year now.

The MHA first signed the ‘Ceasefire Agreement’ with the NSCN (K) Niki Group in September 2021 for a period of one year and over 200 NSCN (K) Niki cadres along with 83 weapons joined the peace accord.

“It was decided to extend the Ceasefire Agreement with the NSCN (K) Niki for a period of one year with effect from 08.09.2022 to 07.09.2023,” the official press release read.

Earlier the National Investigation Agency (NIA) wanted and announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for the alleged involvement of NSCN (K) Niki Group leader, Niki Sumi in the attack on an Army convoy in Manipur’s Chandel district on June 4, 2015, which led to the killing of 18 Indian Army and injury of several others.

The Nagaland Ceasefire Agreement was signed between the Government of India and NSCN to end the insurgency in the state.

The groups who have signed ceasefire agreements are NSCN-NK, NSCN-R, NSCN K-Khango, and NSCN (K) Niki.
