India stands with the people of Manipur; says solution is possible only through peace: PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of 77th Independence day on Tuesday, said that India stands with the people of Manipur and expressed confidence that there shall be a peaceful resolution of the problems there.

He said that there has been a period of unrest and violence in Manipur and news of attacks on the dignity of women, he noted that people of Manipur are maintaining peace for sometime and asked that the process of peace be carried forward.

“The state and the central government are working together to solve those problems and will continue to do so”, he said.

Many people have not lost their life but lives as well, women paraded naked in the streets, raped, sexually assaulted in Manipur's violence during the last four months but the peace in the state has still not been restored.

The Prime Minister began his last and 10th consecutive Independence Day speech  before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls by addressing the countrymen as 'parivaarjan' (family members).

According to social media posts, the Meitei community started the violence back in May 2023 demolishing the tribal's houses, vehicles which resulted in clashes between the tribals and the Meitei community and displaced over 9,000 people from their villages.

Reportedly, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing 17 cases of violence.

In his speech, PM Modi said “serial bomb blasts” are a thing of the past and that the country’s border is now more secure.

“The era of serial blasts is over. Today, the country is seeing a drop in terror attacks. The naxal-prone areas have also seen a drastic change,” the prime minister said.

He further said that he had “full faith in India’s youth power”.

“Whatever steps we take today will decide India’s direction for the next 1000 years,” he said, and added that India’s smaller cities may be “small in terms of size and population, but not in terms of potential”.
