Chandrayaan 3 enters lunar orbit successfully.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on August 5 informed Chandrayaan-3 has been successfully entered into the lunar or moon's orbit.
The said manoeuvre was performed from ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru which commenced at 7 p.m., today.
“Chandrayaan-3 has been successfully inserted into the lunar orbit. A retro-burning at the Perilune was commanded from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX), ISTRAC, Bengaluru,” the space agency said.
According to PTI, Perilune is the Spacecraft's closest point to the moon.
After the completion of the crucial manoeuvre, ISRO took to Twitter and wrote, “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: MOX, ISTRAC, this is Chandrayaan-3. I am feeling lunar gravity.”
Furthermore, a series of manoeuvres will take place now to make the spacecraft enter its final orbit at a distance of about 100 km from the moon’s surface, reported The Hindu.
The first manoeuvre is scheduled to take place at 11 pm IST on August 6.
“The next operation - reduction of orbit – is scheduled for Aug 6, 2023, around 11 pm IST,” ISRO said.
According to the Chandrayaan-3 mission update, after some manoeuvres, the propulsion module PM will separate from the lander while in orbit.
Following the separation, a series of complex braking manoeuvres is also scheduled to take place for soft-landing in the South Polar region of the moon on August 23 at 5.47 p.m.
On August 4, ISRO said that the Spacecraft which was launched on July 14 has covered about two-thirds of the distance to the moon.
