BJP President J P Nadda to continue his tenure till June 2024.

BJP extends BJP President's J P Nadda's term till June 2024, announces Home Minister, Amit Shah.

According to reports, the extension was suggested by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and accordingly was agreed to, unanimously, by the members of the national executive in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The decision was announced on the final day of the BJP's two-day national executive meet being held in New Delhi.

Reportedly, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah while addressing the press conference on the sidelines of the National Executive meet at the NDMC Convention Centre, said the President has done a really good job during the time of Covid.

Shah lauded Nadda's leadership in serving people during the difficult times of pandemic and also stated, it is under Nadda's leadership,  that many states have performed well in elections.

"We performed well under JP Nadda in elections in several states and strengthened our organisation across India, including the northeast. The party has emerged as a force to reckon with in Telangana and Bengal under his leadership," Shah said.

The Union Minister further stated that under the leadership of both the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President J P Nadda, the party will achieve a bigger win in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections than the last general elections in 2019.

He further informed that the membership campaign of BJP could not take place due to Covid restrictions which is why the polls of the party President could not be conducted and the decision to extend J P Nadda's tenure was taken.

Nadda was made the BJP's acting president in July 2019 and assumed as the full-time president on January 20, 2020. He was elected unanimously.

On January 20, his current three-year term will come to an end.

Amit Shah, the former party leader who had previously been replaced by Nadda, received a similar extension in 2019 until the Lok Sabha elections.
