Assam Inspector dismissed from service after sexually assaulting and taking obscene photographs of a girl in the police station.

An Inspector, Biman Roy of Ghograpar Police Station, Nalbari was dismissed from his service over sexually assaulting a girl in the police station.

The dismissal was announced by Assam Police Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh on his official tweeter handle.

In one of his post, the DGP wrote, "Being convinced of the instant case being rarest or rare, and as the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force of Assam, and in accordance with extant law & rules, I have decided to dismiss Inspector (UB) Biman Roy from Assam Police."

He writes that the move should be taken as a warning and advices to all Assam Police personnel to maintain the sanctity of police stations and ensure that police stations remain the safest place for the children and women.

The DGP further stated that anyone not discharging the duty to keep the citizens safe in police stations especially the women and children shall invariably face similar consequences.

"I assure the people of Assam that Assam Police shall continue to discharge its duties to the best of its capabilities in the interest of the state and for service to the people of Assam. Jai Hind," the Assam DGP added.

In his other Twitter post, the DGP wrote that the Inspector is currently on the run and anyone who provides information about his whereabouts would be rewarded.

On June 26, a 17 year old girl filed an FIR against the accused police officer stating the inspector had sexually assaulted her and took obscene photographs of her while she was inside the lockup at Ghograpar PS in Nalbari, Assam.

“I was forced to remove my clothes by the SI, but, I denied. He then threatened me and hence I got scared and removed my clothes. SI has clicked my naked picture and had tried to harass me with his obscene gesture. In the morning, I had informed about the incident to a woman police official, but she asked me to keep quiet,” said the girl in her complaint letter.

Reportedly, the victim and her lover eloped on June 21, however, they were caught by the police and were brought to Ghagrapar PS where the incident took place.
