Amidst India and US mega military exercise, China claims the drill would violate the Border pacts.

Defence Ministry of China on Thursday said, it firmly opposes any third party interference in the boundary issues of China and India in response to the India-US joint military exercise in the Southern foothills of the Himalayas, code-named “War Exercise” (Yudh Abhyas) in October close to the border.

“We firmly oppose any third party to meddle in the China-India border issue in any form,” People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, China said at a conference in Beijing.

Tan said that he is hoping India will strictly abide by the agreements and resolve border issues through bilateral channels and maintain peace between the two countries.

“It is hoped that the Indian side will strictly abide by the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and the relevant agreements, uphold its commitment to resolving border issues through bilateral channels, and maintain peace and tranquillity in the border area with practical actions," he said.

This was also in a way reminding and slamming back India of its protests against China’s multiple transgressions carried out along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) back in 2020 in which India said, China was violating the 1993 and 1996 agreement between the two countries and which led to a major military standoff between the two countries which is still in continuation.

According to the 1993 and 1996 agreements signed between India and China, the two countries are not allowed to conduct any kind of military exercises and reduce tensions along the Line of Actual Control.

According to Yuan Zheng, Deputy Director of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Institute of American Studies, the US doesn’t want to see peace or harmony between India and China and hence it’s trying to create conflict and differences between the two Asian countries.
