KHONSA: The 53rd Chalo Loku festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Thursday in Khonsa town. The Environment & Forest Minister Mama Natung graced the occasion wherein he didn't miss keeping his initiatives at the forefront viz the "Air gun Surrender Abhiyan".

Protecting the rich biodiversity at par with the promotion of one's culture and tradition was emphasized by the Minister while addressing the crowds.

The festival was celebrated in the Nehru Stadium of Khonsa town.

I have always advocated the thing, we must try to keep our cultural identity intact for posterity,” stated Natung to the crowds at the Nehru Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Environment posted on his Twitter handle about the significant event, wherein he mentioned that 55 airguns including a chain saw machine were surrendered at the event. Natung appreciated the people of Tirap for surrendering their airguns as a part of wildlife protection.

Apart from the airguns surrendered by the people of Tirap, Three birds were released by the chief guest to mark the preservation of wildlife and the environment.

MLA Ojing Tasing who graced the occasion as the guest of honour cleared that _"religion and culture are two different facets and should not be mixed"

Chief of Noctes, Wanglin Lowang addressed that “Chalo Loku is one of the biggest agriculture-related festivals of the Nocte community, which is celebrated for recreation and merrymaking after the harvesting of paddy and seasons of hard work.”

Festival celebration committee president Lankham Wangsu also spoke on the occasion.

Traditional dance troupes from Thinsa, Noksa, Kheti, and Mega Nocte modern dance marked the daylong celebration.
